The wing unit support structure (1) is made from a material compound of rubber and embedded steel wire reinforcements. The reinforcements can be a steel wire mat with parallel or diagonal lines. The rubber is preferably vulcanized natural rubber. The support structure can be formed as a self-supporting flat surface element and used as roof element with or without additional insulation.
