PURPOSE: A planar waveguide device provided with a polynomial curve waveguide is provided to minimize the loss of shift and the volume thereof by applying the polynomial curve waveguide consisting of a continuous polynomial curve to the ends of the planar waveguide device. CONSTITUTION: A planar waveguide device provided with a polynomial curve waveguide(614) includes a semiconductor substrate, a core integrated on the semiconductor substrate for transmitting an optical signal as a transmission medium and a clad encompassing the core. The planar waveguide device further includes at least one planar optical waveguide(612) for consisting one end of the core and at least one polynomial curve waveguide(614) connected to the planar optical waveguide(612) for consisting of the curve defined by the polynomial.
