Aqueous plastic dispersion based on an emulsion polymer of an acrylic acid ester and styrene. The emulsion polymer comprises at least one acrylic acid ester as plasticizing monomer, styrene and at least one alpha , beta -unsaturated mono and/or dicarboxylic acid and/or at least one acrylic acid amide as hardening monomer, with a viscosity of 40-400 mPa.s.. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of dispersions comprising preparing a pre emulsion containing the monomer, placing at least one emulsifier and at least one initiator in a reactor vessel, mixing the pre emulsion under polymerization conditions, using n-butyl acrylate and/or 2-ethylhexyl acrylate as plasticizing monomer(s) and acrylamide and/or acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and/or itaconic acid as hardening monomer(s).
