Two parallel adjacent press drums are separated by a gap and rest on a two-part (12, 14) support joint (10). A height-adjustable intermediate bevelled gear (16) is esp. located between the two parts (12, 14) in the direction of the press action (PR). The maximum extent of movement (PR) is limited by an end-stop (30, 32). The bevelled gear (16) has a number of wedged surfaces (26, 28) sub-divided into sections (18-24) which slide with respect to each other. The two inner parts (22, 24) move towards each other, thereby pushing the two outer parts (18, 20) apart. The maximum separation is limited by end-stops (30, 32).
