A method for the control of secondary air amounts on a motor vehicle with a device (3,4,5,6) for secondary air injection is characterised in that the increase in injected secondary air is controlled with time such as to change dependent on the start conditions of the motor vehicle and the heating progress of the catalyst (8) as determined by measurement or modeling.
