Process for forging workpieces (W1, W2) made from metallic material, e.g., light metal or steel, comprises: heating the material to temperature at which it is in a partially solid-liquid state; charging wells (7, 8) of open tool with sufficient amount of the material; closing the tool so that the wells are simultaneously filled with the material; and keeping tool closed until material solidifies. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the forging process. Preferred Features: The material is heated in the form of billets and then placed in the wells. Heating is carried out continuously or in a cycle. Heating is carried out inductively, conductively or by radiating.
