Reactive armour for tank - has two plate elements sandwiched over explosive layer and mounted on sloping front of tank

The front of the tank is fitted with a double-skinned protective wall sloping forwards and upwards. The top of the hollow front section is covered by a sandwich of two plates and an inner explosive layer (26-30) to intercept armour-piercing projectiles. The remainder of the armour is sufficient to protect against secondary impacts from projectiles. The hollow front section protects against infantry launched projectiles and has the inner shell (14) to protect the interior of the tank. The bottom of the hollow space is covered with a base cladding (40). The main armour shell of the tank can be made proportionally lighter through use of the additional protection.
