The mounting sections (2b) of the left and right drop-outs (1b) can each be fitted with an insert (13) for a hub gear or a chain gear. The upper and lower struts (19, 20) of the bicycle frame are connected together at an acute angle in the mounting section of the drop-out. The mounting section contains a slot (17) for receiving the end of an axle.
