<p>A gasifier system (1) includes a gasifier chamber (24), a plurality of nozzles or burners (20, 21) injecting and combusting a mixture including coal (13) and oxygen (12) within the gasifier chamber (24), and an ash bed (31). Concurrent flow is generated within the gasifier (4) wherein gas (43) and bi-products generated by combustion flow through the ash bed (31). The ash bed (31) serves as a filter and reducing volume for trace carbon not gasified during the combustion. Hot gases (33) exit the gasifier (4) and enter a gas cooler (5) and then a hot gas filter (6). Ash is unloaded from the gasifier chamber (24) and is transferred into a quench tank (53), where ash settles and is removed by a progressive pitched dewatering screw press (76). The screw press (76) also serves as a seal to prevent excessive water escaping from the gasifier operation.</p> |
