PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new bis(diphenylvinyl)arene compound which has sufficient solubility in organic solvents, has excellent reactivity, and has reactive functional groups on the phenyl groups. SOLUTION: This bis(diphenylvinyl)arene compound is represented by the general formula (1) (Ar is an arylene having one or more substituents selected from an alkylsilyl, an alkoxyphenyl, and the like; R<1> to R<22> are each H, a halogen, cyano, nitro, an arylsulfonyloxy, an alkylsulfonyloxy, or the like, provided that at least one of R<1> to R<20> is a halogen, an arylsulfonyloxy or an alkylsulfonyloxy).
