A system for accessing resources (such as RAM) comprises: switch means 11 for selectively requesting access to said resources, comprising arbitration circuitry 110 responsive to simultaneous requests for access to resources from first and second circuitry 19,21,23 to select one of said first and second circuitries for access and including first and second burst access circuits associated respectively with said first and second circuitry and being interconnected such that information indicating which resource has been granted a burst access can be communicated therebetween; and wherein said arbitration circuitry on the selection of the first circuitry requesting a burst access to a first resource, inhibits, for the duration of the burst, the accessing of the first resource via said switch means except by said first circuitry while remaining responsive to requests for access to other, different resources from the second circuitry, thereby allowing said first circuitry and said second circuitry to be sequentially selected for access to said first and other resources respectively during the duration of the burst. Application is to digital TV decoders (set-top boxes). |
