PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for continuously detecting whether or not the tip position of a lance is in a suitable position while reducing a worker's labor burden and avoiding danger. SOLUTION: In this method for detecting the tip position of the lance 1 for blowing reaction gas into molten metal stored in a copper converter and having a crude copper layer and slag layer, the lance 1 is composed of an outer tube 2 and an inner tube 3 to be electrodes insulated from each other, and electric resistance between the outer tube 2 and inner tube 3 is measured to detect whether the tip position of the lance 1 is in the crude copper layer or in the slag layer.
