Separating CO 2 from a gas stream 10 containing methane and CO 2 comprises contacting the gas stream with an aqueous stream 11 so that at least a portion of the CO 2 is dissolved into the aqueous stream, separating the gas and aqueous streams 13 and disposing of the CO 2 in a marine environment, terrestrial formation or a combination thereof. The methane enriched gas stream may be converted into liquid hydrocarbons by the Fischer-Tropsch process. The aqueous stream may be at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure but less than the source pressure of the gas stream. The aqueous stream, which prior to contact with the aqueous stream may have a pH of at least 7, may be obtained from one or more of reaction water or cooling water from a Fischer-Tropsch process, river water, non-potable water, sea water or water recovered from hydrocarbon production.
|
