PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbo-molecular pump which can be driven with a smaller current capacity and by an inexpensive power source device, and a method for controlling the operation of the turbo-molecular pump. SOLUTION: A configuration/method is employed, such that the power is successively supplied in a starting condition to each radial magnetic bearing and each thrust magnetic bearing.
