PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder feeding a sheet at a high speed by a claw separation method capable of dealing with the sheets of various rigidity degrees. SOLUTION: This paper feeder has a paper feeding roller 28 and a separation claw 39 cooperating to sequentially sending out the topmost sheet of the sheets stacked in a paper feeding cassette 21; a concave turn guide member abutted on the lower face of the sent-out sheet P, guiding the sheet P upward; upper guide members 33a 33b restricting and guiding the upper face of the sheet P when the sheet P is sent out and moves toward the turn guide member; and a feeding roller further feeding the sheet P guided by the turn guide member. The upper guide members 33a, 33b are selectively used according to the rigidity degree of the fed sheet P, and a sheet upper face restriction guidance attitude is changed.
