PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for crystallizing terephthalic acid from an aqueous solution of the terephthalic acid by using a multistage continuous agitating vessel while preventing the crystallizing operation from being hampered due to a foaming in the final-stage agitating vessel. SOLUTION: This method involves equipping the final-stage agitating vessel with a defoaming blade rotating above the liquid level to mechanically eliminate generated foams.
