PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet unit ensuring highly reliable printing or patterning by preventing clogging of nozzle due to evaporation of solvent when aqueous ink or solvent ink containing an evaporating solvent is used. SOLUTION: In the vicinity of a nozzle 8 on the surface of the orifice plate 6 of an ink jet head 1, a holder 12 of nonwoven fabric composed of rayon, polyester, or mixture of both fibers, or metallic fibers is provided on the surface of the orifice plate 6 and solvent is supplied from a tank filled with solvent being used in aqueous ink to the holder 12 through a tube by means of capillarity or a pump. Since the space in the vicinity of the nozzle opening has a humidity of saturation vapor pressure at the temperature of head installation environment, the solvent can be prevented from drying up at the nozzle opening even under low humidity environment. |
