PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion compensating optical fiber module with which loss fluctuation is small within a wide temperature range even though the dispersion compensating optical module is wound up around a small spool. SOLUTION: A dispersion compensating optical fiber having negative wavelength dispersion and a negative dispersion slope in a used wavelength band is wound up around a spool at a pitch 1.2 times longer than the diameter of the dispersion compensating optical fiber to form a dispersion compensating optical fiber module. Thus, a contact area with an adjacent optical fiber is made small to weaken the adhesive force of optical fibers with each other, a margin for the dispersion compensating optical fiber to make fine moment is provided when the spool fluctuates in volume due to temperature fluctuation, and a loss increase is prevented from occurring due to stress applied to the dispersion compensating optical fiber when temperature fluctuates.
