PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL material which can emit light with high luminance and can realize the emission of lights of three primary colors, i.e., red, blue and green, to thereby realize full color display. SOLUTION: This organic electroluminescent material consists of a single ligand organoiridium complex represented by the general formula: [Ir(L1 )3 ]X3 or [Ir(terpy)2 ]X3 , a binary mixed ligand organoiridium complex represented by the general formula: [Ir(L1 )2 (L2 )]X3 , [Ir(L1 )2 (L3 )2 ]X3 , [Ir(L1 )2 (X1 )2 ]X, [Ir(terpy)(L3 )3 ]X3 or [Ir(terpy)(X1 )3 ], and a ternary mixed ligand organoiridium complex represented by the general formula: [Ir(L1 )(terpy)(L3 )]X3 or [Ir(L1 )(terpy)(X1 )]X2 . In the formulas, the ligand L1 is 4,7-diphenyl-1,10- phenanthroline, 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine or the like; the ligand terpy is 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine; X is a hexafluorophosphate ion, a boron tetrafluoride ion or the like; the ligand X1 is a chloride ion, a bromide ion or the like; and the ligand L3 is ammonium, pyridyl or the like.
