PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a brilliant coating material composition which can control brilliance unevenness even in a dark-colored brilliant coating film, to provide a method for forming a brilliant coating film and to provide a coated material. SOLUTION: The brilliant coating composition comprises a vehicle, 0.5-5 mass %, based on the solid content of the coating material, of a brilliant pigment, an extender pigment and a polymer amide-based pigment dispersant. The method for forming the brilliant coating film comprises forming a black base coating film layer having <=10 L value on a material to be coated, forming a brilliant clear coating film layer on the black base coating film layer by using the brilliant coating material composition and then forming a top clear coating film layer on the brilliant clear coating film layer. The coated material is coated by using the method for forming the brilliant coating film.
