In a pivoted plastic movable guide (100) for a chain or belt transmission, having a reinforcing plate (108) disposed in a slot (107) on a plate-receiving portion (103) on a back side of the guide (100), a plunger-engaging portion of the reinforcing plate (108) protrudes slightly from the opening of the slot (107) for contact with the plunger (110) of a tensioner. The plunger-receiving portion of the reinforcing plate (108) has a curved profile, preferably in the form of a convex or concave circular arc, which engages the plunger (110) over a contact area which does not vary with a changing angle between the plunger (110) and the guide (100). The edge of the reinforcing plate (108) is also preferably in the form of a circular arc, or has beveled or rounded edges to avoid excessive wear due to load concentration. The guide (100) exhibits excellent quietness and resistance to wear, deterioration and breakage. <IMAGE> <IMAGE>
