PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which can meet high linear velocity and high density and is excellent in repetition characteristics and storage characteristics. SOLUTION: In a phase change type optical recording medium which enables recording, playback and erasure of information by the phase transition between a crystal phase and an amorphous phase under irradiation by an electromagnetic wave, a recording layer of the medium is constituted of Pd, Ge, Sb and Te and of at least one element M (Sn, Ga, P, Bi, In or Cs) which is an element other than the above and of which the absolute viscosity is in the range of 20-120 g/(cms) at about 540 deg.C (1). The grain size of the recording layer at initial crystallization and that at erasure are the same (preferably in the range of 100-200 Å) (2). |
