PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that, when an external character defined by 24×24 dots is printed with half size, only one half of the full size external character pattern of 24×24 dots, i.e., character pattern of 11×24 dots, is printed even if half size specification is effective and an external character code subjected to external character definition is printed, and when a full size external character pattern is printed with half size, the external character is required to be defined every time, and it is also true for a quarter size character. SOLUTION: In the extended external character printing method, a half size external character and a quarter size external character are generated and printed through contraction edition operation based on full size external character pattern when half size or quarter size is specified. The printer comprises means for discriminating between standard external character printing method and extended external character printing method, and enhances the function of external character defining operation by reducing useless external character defining operation. |
