PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize stable image formation by efficiently setting an appropriate image forming condition in compliance with a condition on the quality or the thickness of recording material and effectively correcting short-term or long-term fluctuation of image density and tone reproduction caused by various factors. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is provided with a means for controlling the image forming condition in the case of heating and melting a visible image formed on the recording material corresponding to inputted image data while carrying the recording material in contact with a fixing member and fixing it on the recording material. A fixing condition for the recording material is changed in a stage to form a specified image pattern on the recording material in the case of forming the specified image pattern on the recording material, reading the image pattern formed on the recording material by a pattern forming means, and controlling the image forming condition based on the characteristic of the read image pattern. |
