<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce NOx while reducing soot in exhaust gas of a diesel engine. SOLUTION: A swirl port and a swirl adjusting port are formed as intake ports, and DPF 36 for collecting soot in the exhaust gas and an oxidation catalyst 37 for oxidizing NO in the exhaust gas into NO2 and supplying it to the DPF 36 are installed to an exhaust passage 35. When the DPF 36 is in an active condition for generating an oxidation reaction of soot with NO2 , the swirl adjusting port is closed to heighten intake flow rate. Thereby, the temperature inside a combustion chamber is heightened, so as to promote generation of NO, increase the volume of NO2 supplied from the oxidation catalyst 37 to the DPF 36, and regenerate the DPF 36.</p> |
