PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer gel composition which can largely change its optical scattering property, reflection coefficient, light absorption, and the like, in response to an electric field, has a stable repeating characteristic, and can be applied to transmission type elements in a simple structure, and to provide an optical element using the polymer gel composition. SOLUTION: The polymer gel composition is characterized by having a liquid and an antistatic polymer gel which absorbs or releases the liquid in response to an electric field to change the volume. The optical element uses this polymer gel composition.
