PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for refining a fluorobenzoic acid of the general formula (1) (wherein, F is a fluorine atom; and m is an integer of 1-5) alternative to conventional recrystallization methods using an organic solvent such as hexane or toluene. SOLUTION: This new method comprises heating and agitating the fluorobenzoic acid in the presence of water to disperse it in the water followed by, for example, cooling the system to crystallize the fluorobenzoic acid and isolating it from the water.
