PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a 4-substituted phenylphenol containing a phenyl-substituted asymmetric alkyl group at the 4-position of the phenyl-substituted group. SOLUTION: This new 4-substituted phenylphenol is represented by general formula (I) (R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; when R1 is a hydrogen atom, R2 is a 1-8C alkyl group and when R1 is a methyl group, R2 is a 2-8C alkyl group).
