PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can perform not only ordinary color printing but also printing with a special color, e.g. a metallic color. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a first print unit where a print sheet 1 fed from a feeding means is passed between a first thermal head 5 and a first platen roller 7 and imparted with ink in a specified pattern by heating a first ink ribbon 11 interposed between a matter 1 being printed and the first thermal head 5 with the thermal head 5, and a second print unit for passing the print sheet 1 fed from the first print unit between a second thermal head 15 and a second platen roller 17 while heating with the second thermal head 15 and transferring ink in a specified pattern from a second ink ribbon 21 to the print sheet 1 wherein print shift in the second stage is prevented by controlling the operation timing and the operational range of the first and second thermal heads 5 and 15.
