PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the freezing of the cooled water and to utilize the cooling performance of the refrigerating machine at a maximum. SOLUTION: This refrigerating machine has a refrigerating cycle that a refrigerant gas compressed by a displacement-controllable compressor 1 is guided to a condenser 3 to be condensed, the refrigerant liquid discharged from the condenser 3 is guided to a water cooler 7 through an expansion valve 5 to be evaporated by heat exchange with the water flowing in the water cooler 7, and the refrigerant gas evaporated by the water cooler 7 is returned to the compressor 1. A freezing prevention control means is mounted for lowering a displacementΔQ of the compressor 1 when a refrigerant gas pressure Pa flowing out from the water cooler 7 is less than a set pressure P*1, and the set pressure P*1 is corrected on the basis of a flow rate FW of the water flowing out from the water cooler 7, whereby the refrigerating performance can be effectively utilized to a range of low refrigerant gas pressure Pa.
