PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for inspection which can decide whether or not a temperature detecting element detecting the temperature of a heat fixing member abuts against the heat fixing member normally without damaging the temperature detecting element. SOLUTION: A driving control part 11 drives a motor driving part 10 to rotate a hot roller 3 without turning on a heater lamp 4. Frictional heat is generated by sliding at the abutting point between the hot roller 3 and a thermistor 6 which is so fitted to contact its surface and detected by the thermistor 6, and a resistance measuring instrument 12 measures the resistance value of the thermistor 6. The resistance value of the transmistor 6 is displayed by a display part 13 and compared with a previously set specific resistance reference value to decide whether the thermistor 6 abuts against the hot roller 3.
