PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double deck elevator enabling a work safely outside of a car thereof. SOLUTION: This double deck elevator comprises an vertically movable car frame guided by guide rails in a hoistway of a building, an upper cage and a lower cage installed in the car frame and at least one of them is vertically movable, and a driving means for vertically moving at least one of the upper cage and the lower cage. A working space surrounded by members including a handrail is formed in the upper part of the car frame. Thereby, operations such as adjusting operation for the space between the upper car and the lower car can be performed safely in the hoistway at maintenance and inspection.
