PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating drum type dryer and a drying method that improves drying efficiency by bringing a treated object and hot air into full contact even if the treated object has a high water content like garbage and high stickiness like boiled rice and even in the case of using a short kiln in which the ratio of length to diameter of a rotating drum is small. SOLUTION: This rotating drum type dryer is provided with a rotating drum 10 into which a treated object is thrown, and a hot air supply port 16 for supplying hot air into the rotating drum 10. The hot air supply port 16 is provided in the tangential direction of the rotating drum 10.
