PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side knock type propelling pencil made inexpensive and simple to assemble by reducing the number of parts of the side knock type propelling pencil. SOLUTION: In the side knock type propelling pencil comprising a shaft cylinder 1, a slide element 17, a chuck 3, a chuck ring 4, a chuck spring 6, and a side-knock member 16; the slide element 17 has an inclined part susceptible to the contact with the side-knock member, a large diameter part provided behind the inclined part and having an outer diameter almost equal to the inner diameter of the shaft cylinder, and a core passage piercing through the inclined part and the large diameter part to extend axially. The slide element is formed as a one piece member, and the chuck is directly connected to the slide element without using a connection member.
