PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ash treatment method by which no wastewater to the outside of a wastewater treatment system is generated and an apparatus for carrying out the method. SOLUTION: The ash treatment method is for decreasing the volume of ashes and make handling of ashes easy by quantitatively taking out ashes stored in an ash silo 1 by a quantitatively supplying apparatus 2 and wetting ashes by water addition. Ashes stored in the ash silo 1 are quantitatively supplied to a dampening and kneading apparatus 4, kneaded with water, formed into a shape easy to handle and stored in a flexible container bag 6. Wastewater generated in a washing line of a dust removal tower 7 for removing dust of ashes generated in the dampening and kneading apparatus 4 is received by a wastewater tank 9 and the supernatant water in the wastewater tank 9 is collected in a supernatant tank 10 and after that, the water is either used from the supernatant tank 10 as a portion of water to be added for dampening the ashes or circulated and reused as washing water.
