PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool of surface-coated cemented carbide with a hard coat layer achieving excellent abrasion-resistance in high speed cutting. SOLUTION: On the surface of tool base material of WC cemented carbide or titanium carbon nitride cermet, through (a) a crystal oriented hysteresis layer comprising a Ti-Al composite nitride layer having 0.01-0.15μm layer thickness, satisfying (Ti1- XAlX)N (X is 0.01-0.15 in atomic ratio), and having the highest peak at face (200) as measured by a Cu-Kαray X-ray diffraction device to a rake face and a flank in a cutting edge, being 0.5 deg. or less, with highest peak half value breadth of 2θ, (b) the hard coat layer comprising Al-Ti-Si composite nitride layer having an average layer thickness of 2-10μm, satisfying a composition formula of (Al1-( A+ B) TiASiB)N (A is 0.35-0.55; B is 0.05-0.20), having the highest peak at face (200) as measured by the X-ray diffraction device to the rake face and the flank in the cutting edge, being 0.5 deg. or less with highest peak half value breadth of 2θ, is formed by physical vapor deposition.
