PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide press dies, a method and an apparatus for breadthwise reduction which enable prevention of the occurrence of flaws in a product, and improvement of width accuracy when breadthwise reducing a hot slab by a press. SOLUTION: A material of a pair of press dies to continuously breadthwise reduce the hot slab is either a Ni-based superalloy or a Fe-based superalloy. In this breadthwise reduction method, the breadthwise reduction is performed by using the press dies without performing any cooling of the press dies. In this breadthwise reduction apparatus, a cooling mechanism is provided on a slider to hold the press dies.
