PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst and a producing method capable of obtaining a town gas material having a high calorific power by producing a lower hydrocarbon mainly containing methane, ethane, propane and butane in high yields. SOLUTION: The above problem is solved by a catalyst for producing the town gas material from dimethyl ether and a method for producing a town gas material using this catalyst characterized in that the catalyst contains a crystalline aluminosilicate in which a molar ratio of silica to alumina is 3-10.
