PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner adopting a cyclone system, which can detect whether or not a prescribed quantity of dust is stored in a dust chamber and can uniform a user of the detected result. SOLUTION: In a vacuum cleaner body case, a detection means composed of a transmitting part and a receiving part on both the sides of the dust chamber is provided. When dust is not stored in the dust chamber, an infrared ray transmitted from the transmitting part as a signal is passed through the dust chamber and received by the receiving part, but when a prescribed quantity of dust is stored in the dust chamber, the infrared ray is shielded by the dust not to be received by the receiving part. This result is discriminated by a discrimination means and the state is reported to the user correspondingly to the discriminated result.
