PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a target nucleic acid fragment, capable of being readily and rapidly carried out by everyone by using a small device without requiring a special technique or a complicated operation, and further to provide a space-saving detection kit for the target nucleic acid fragment, capable of being automated. SOLUTION: This method comprises timely detecting the double-stranded nucleic acid fragment produced when carrying out a polymerase extension reaction based on the specific base sequence of the target nucleic acid fragment by the increase of electrochemical response in the presence of an electrochemical intercalator. The detection kit uses the method.
