PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing an ester interchange reaction, capable of producing an ester compound in a good efficiency, also without accompanying an inactivation of a bio-catalyst and capable of reusing the bio- catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for performing the ester interchange reaction by using the bio-catalyst for catalyzing the ester interchange reaction and an acyl donor toward an alcohol in a normal temperature molten salt is characterized by using a carboxyl acid ester (provided that an ester of a carboxylic acid with vinyl alcohol is excluded) as the acyl donor and performing the reaction while distilling off the alcohol produced as a byproduct under a vacuum.
