PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-quenching fluorescence probe able to monitor with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The oligonucleotide probe comprising an oligonucleotide sequence which does not hybridize with itself to form a hairpin structure, a fluorescent reporter molecule attached to the oligonucleotide sequence and a quencher molecule capable of quenching the fluorescence of the fluorescent reporter molecule, and the oligonucleotide sequence is capable of existing in at least one single-stranded conformation and the quencher molecule quenches the fluorescence of the reporter molecule in this case, and the oligonucleotide sequence also capable of existing in at least one conformation when hybridized to a target polynucleotide and in this case, the fluorescence of the reporter molecule is unquenched and the fluorescence intensity of the reporter molecule in emission maximum in hybridized state of the oligonucleotide sequence with the target polynucleotide has intensity at least six times stronger than the fluorescence of the reporter molecule in emission maximum in unhybridized state.
