The invention relates to a process for preparing graft rubbers built up from at least one graft core and from at least one graft shell, comprisinga) preparing an aqueous dispersion of at least one elastomeric polymer,b) then, to obtain the at least one graft core, selectively hydrogenating ethylenically unsaturated double bonds in the elastomeric polymer, using hydrogen, in the presence of at least one hydrogenation catalyst, where the aqueous dispersion of the elastomeric polymer comprises not more than 20% by volume of an organic solvent, andc) grafting onto the graft core at least one graft shell,and also to the corresponding graft rubbers.The invention further relates to blends comprisinga) from 2 to 70% by weight of a graft rubber according to the invention, as component A,b) from 30 to 98% by weight of a thermoplastic polymer or of a mixture of various thermoplastic polymers, as component B, andc) from 0 to 50% by weight of other additives, as component C,where the entirety of components A to C is 100% by weight, based on the blend.
