PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus, in which particles of pigment components, etc., in a coating in a coating pipeline are effectively restrained from sedimenting, and washing liquid is prevented from mixing in a coating- supply source at the time of washing the coating pipeline. SOLUTION: In the coating machine 1, coatings are supplied to a head 10 through coating-supply pipes S1-S4 provided with liquid-supply pumps. Coating return pipes R1-R4 are installed parallel with the coating-supply pipes from the head to the coating-supply tank. Return pipe opening/closing valves are arranged on the coating return-pipes, and by-passes B1-B4 are provided to the coating-supply pipes to by-pass the coating supply-pumps. The return pipe opening/closing valve is controlled to keep the coating-return pipe in an open state in return and circulation of the coating, and the valve keeps the coating- return pipe in a closed state in coating time of a coating supplied from the coating-supply pipe.
