The locking profile (13) is moved from the neutral position to the locking position in a direction transverse to the window periphery, so that the window (1) is moved in a direction transverse to the groove (10) or cavity in the window frame for the guide profile or runner (18). The guide profile for guiding the window along the groove in the window frame is rotatably connected to the window via an arm (15). An actuator (12) connected to the arm is used to move the guide profile from the neutral position to the locking position. The actuator is connected to a strip (7, 9) extending around at least part of the window periphery. An Independent claim is also included for a combination of a sliding window, a frame and the locking mechanism, including a screen placed in the frame at one of its end edges so that it extends transverse to the sliding direction of the window, the screen being provided with grips for engaging with raised profiles on the strip during movement of the latter.
