PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forming machine for a can which can reliably release a can body from a punch sleeve and prevents the outer circumferential surface of the can body from being damaged by a stripper even when speeding up of forming speed and thinning of the can body are carried out. SOLUTION: The forming machine is provided with an annular ironing die 4 to iron the can body W by advancing a punch sleeve 5, and the stripper 8 to release the ironed can body W from the punch sleeve 5. The stripper 8 is provided with a claw member 10 which is freely advanced or retreated in a direction orthogonal to the axis line of the punch sleeve 5, a spring member 16 to move back and forth the claw member 10, and an air reservoir 12. During advance of the punch sleeve 5, the claw member 10 is retreated by the spring member 16 and separated from the can body W, and during retreat of the punch sleeve 5, the claw member 10 is advanced toward the punch sleeve 5 by air feed to the air reservoir 12 and locked at the opening edge X of the can body W.
