PURPOSE: A method for controlling white balance is provided to correct gains of R and B drives or R and B cutoff voltage gains through a microcomputer even in extreme high/low light regions to control white balance. CONSTITUTION: A cathode picture terminal detects a video signal fed back to a video processor to convert the video signal into a voltage signal. The voltage signal is compared with a reference high voltage level and a reference low voltage level(302S), to control voltage gains of R and B drives or R and B cutoff voltage gains, thereby reproducing the video signal. When the voltage signal is higher than the reference high voltage level, the voltage gains of the R and B drives are adjusted to reproduce the video signal(302S'). In the case that the voltage signal is lower than the reference low voltage level, the R and B cutoff voltage gains are controlled to reproduce the video signal(304S).
