PURPOSE: A method is provided to reduce exhaust gas by improving purification of CO and HC gases through the rapid warming up of the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises the first step(S100 to S130) of outputting a two stage combustion control signal over the first predetermined time period, when the engine for directly injecting fuel into the cylinder is applied with power and exhaust gas reduction operation is performed; the second step(S140 to S160) of outputting a lean air-fuel mixture stratification combustion control signal over the second predetermined time period, when the first predetermined time period of the first step has lapsed; and the third step(S170 to S190) of outputting a fuel injection control signal over the third predetermined time period and ending the process, when the second predetermined time period of the second step has lapsed.
