PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo signal writer in which elimination of an abnormal portion from a magnetic tape is required when abnormality is found in servo signals that are written onto the tape and no waste is realized in the tape. SOLUTION: In a servo writer 10, servo signals are written into a magnetic tape MT by a first writing head H1, the servo signals written into the tape MT are read by a first inspection head H2 and inspected by a first servo signal inspecting section (not shown in the figure). When abnormality is found by the first signal inspecting section, the portion having the abnormality is erased by an erasing head H3 and correct servo signals are rewritten by a second writing head H4 onto the portion that has been erased. Then, the servo signals written into the tape MT is re-read by a second inspecting head H5 and inspected by a second servo signal inspecting section (not shown in the figure).
