摘要 Touch-sensitive detector (1) comprises a detection surface (2), a conducting section (3), detectors (D1, D2), and first (E1, E1') and second (E2, E2') electrode pair assemblies. Each detector is arranged to detect a signal (S) emitted by an electrode and transmitted via an external element (10), in contact with the detection surface, to its matching electrode. The two electrode pairs have different operating capacities and so are sensitive to different ranges. An Independent claim is made for a detection method with two electrode pairs used to detect an object in contact with a detection surface. The operating capacity of the second set of electrodes is less than that of the first set and the detection surface area of the second electrode set is less that of the first set. Thus the second electrode set by be used for low- resolution command input and cursor control, while the first electrode set can be used for user authorization by fingerprint identification.
